Example
of a tour (17 days) through Central-Alberta and the Rocky Mountains
(Alberta and British Columbia).
Tours are customized to suit your preferences.
This
particular tour was customized for a Yodel Group from Switzerland.
Day 1
Switzerland - Calgary - Red Deer
The guests are welcomed at the airport by tour
coordinator and tour guide Fred Salvisberg. After a short coffee and
refreshment break we board our luxury coach, driven by a certified professional
driver, and head for
Red Deer.
We will be staying in
Red Deer for 3 nights.
Day 2
Rodeo
Following
a brief orientation, we head for the
Ponoka Stampede (Rodeo). Here we will see "cowboy action".
Day 3
Farms - Yodel Evening
In the morning we will visit a Swiss Dairy Farm, as well as a modern dairy
farm with carousel. We then visit a bison ranch, where we will be
served our lunch. After lunch it's time for a safari.
We will have a traditional Swiss evening. The Yodel Club and the
Wildrose Yodel Club will provide entertainment.
Day 4
Sunday Brunch - Petroleum Industry - Devonian Gardens - Edmonton
Following the gourmet Sunday Brunch at the restaurant in our hotel, we head for
Edmonton. In the
Interpretive Centre
in
Devon, south of
Edmonton,
we will learn about the exploration and processing of petroleum. Alberta is a major petroleum producer.
We then continue our journey in the direction of Edmonton. Following
a relaxing stop at the
Devonian
Gardens we will check in at the
Hotel
Crowne Plaza. From here we have an exceptional view of the
North
Saskatchewan River Valley and of the
City of Edmonton and surroundings.
Day 5
Free
There are no guided tours today. Explore on your own. We will gladly provide suggestions.
Nearby are:
City Hall with its
unique architecture, the
Shaw Conference Center, the Muttart Conservatory, the Canada Center and
many more. This

Day 6
West Edmonton Mall - Hinton
In the morning we visit
West
Edmonton Mall, the largest shopping and amusement center in the
world. Then we head West, in the direction of the
Rocky
Mountains. Our accommodation is in a beautiful lodge in
Hinton.

Hinton - Jasper National Park - Banff National Park
Shortly after leaving
Hinton
we will arrive at the
Jasper
National Park. The trip through the National Park takes us past glaciers, mountains, crystal-clear lakes. Pure
nature ……
Often one can see
black
bear,
mule deer,
moose,
elk
and
bighorn
sheep.
We stay at a hotel in the Banff-Canmore
area.
Day 8
Buffalo Jump - Cranbrook
At the
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
we learn how the native people lived and how they hunted the buffalo.
And
of course, we will stop for a photo at the
world's largest truck in
Sparwood, B.C.
Tonight
we stay in
Cranbrook.
Day 9
Osoyoos
From Cranbrook we head, along the Canada/US border, to Osoyoos. This is a fruit and wine growing area.
Our hotel is the
Holiday Inn
in Osoyoos.
Day 10
Plantations - Okanagan Valley
We head North, through the beautiful
Okanagan Valley. This area is renowned for its fine wines (South-Okanagan,
North-Okanagan,
Central Okanagan).
Lunch is at a local vineyard - and of course there is ample opportunity for wine degustation!!
Day 11
Yodel Mass - Silver Star Mountain
The Yodel Club will sing a Yodel Mass for the local Swiss community and their friends.
We will spend a relaxing afternoon at the
Silver Star Mountain.
Day 12
Free Morning (am) - Revelstoke
There is no organized visit in the morning. Relax or explore on your own. We will gladly provide suggestions.
In
the afternoon we head for
Revelstoke. At dinner we will be entertained by a local cowboy.
We stay overnight at the Three Valley Gap in
Revelstoke.
Day 13
Lake Louise - Banff - Canmore
The Transcanada Highway Nr. 1 winds through a mountainous area and
brings us back into Alberta and the
Banff
National Park.
Lake Louise
(webcam), the blue-green mountain lake with its glacier is a perfect spot for a
picture.
The trip then continue in direction of
Banff. We can stroll trough the town - a perfect opportunity to pick up more souvenirs.
Our accommodation for the last two nights is in nearby
Canmore.
Day 14
Mount Engadine Lodge - Kananaskis
Our coach will take us into the scenic
Kananaskis
Valley. A short (1.5 hours) guided walk in this beautiful area is optional.
Lunch is at the
Mount Engadine
Lodge. The return trip goes through the
Kananaskis
Valley (Alpine sports, 1988 Winter Olympics).
Our farewell party, in CH-folklore style, is in a Swiss Restaurant. Here we will meet another Swiss Yodel Club.
Day 15
Free
There is no organized program today - explore
Canmore
or
Calgary. We will gladly provide suggestions.
Day 16
Spruce Meadows - Calgary International Airport
On the way to the airport we will visit the renowned equestrian center
Spruce Meadows,
located in
Calgary.
Departure: 6:00 p.m.
